I get better pictures when I shoot less and look more. Sports are so much more than the dunk, home run or touchdown, and athletes are more than a jersey number, stat or sponsor. I love the challenge of finding something uniquely different that the hundreds of other photographers on the sidelines aren’t getting. That usually means hanging with the fans, climbing catwalks or spending time accessing locker rooms and places the normal fan or photographer can’t go. Whether I’m working for ESPN The Magazine, SI, The Sarasota Herald-Tribune or The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I’m at my best chasing pictures that show the game from a new perspective and that have longevity beyond the next morning’s news cycle.
