Robert Horry

Robert Horry

Retired NBA

In his 16 NBA seasons, forward Robert Horry was on teams that won the NBA championship seven times. No team that he was on ever lost a Finals series, and Horry became renowned throughout the league for hitting clutch shots at crucial moments. His three-pointer with 14.1 seconds left in Game 3 of the 1995 NBA Finals put the Houston Rockets up 104–101 on the Orlando Magic. Houston went on to win the game 106–103 and would sweep the seven-game series. Besides the Rockets, Horry also won titles with the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs. Horry was the 11th pick in the 1992 draft out of Alabama, where he played alongside future NBA player Latrell Sprewell. In four years, Horry helped lead the Crimson Tide to three SEC tournament titles and to two appearances in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. He’d gone to Tuscaloosa from Andalusia High, where he’d been named the Alabama High School Player of the Year. Horry’s NBA career stands out as one of the most singular in the history of the league. He was never an All-Star. He averaged only 7.0 points and 4.8 rebounds. But he was in the right place at the right time — and he made the most of it every time. Horry now works as a commentator on Spectrum SportsNet for the Lakers.
