The Chirp: Abby Wambach’s Last Match

Soccer legend Abby Wambach played her final match with the U.S. women’s national team Wednesday night in New Orleans, as part of the team’s World Cup victory tour. The striker, who leaves the game as the all-time international leading goal scorer, capped off her career with 1-0 loss to China. Teammates Megan Rapinoe and Christie Rampone said "Farewell to G.O.A.T.," after Abby announced her retirement in October.

As Abby took to the pitch for the last time, athletes from across the sports world congratulated her on her historic career:

Abby is the epitome of what an athlete should be; dedicated, passionate and humble. Congrats on an amazing career. https://t.co/tbIgHZuPe0 — Landon Donovan (@landondonovan) December 16, 2015
