The Players’ Tribune is a media company that provides athletes with a platform to connect directly with their fans, in their own words. Founded by Derek Jeter, The Players’ Tribune publishes first-person stories from athletes, providing unique insight into the daily sports conversation.

We are looking for candidates who are eager to be part of an innovative publishing platform.

Editorial Intern

Location: New York

The Players’ Tribune seeks fall interns to work directly with the editorial and social media teams. This is for both paid or school credit, and interns are expected to join us in the office three to five days a week from as early as 8/22 going through mid December (dates are flexible).

Responsibilities:

  • Editorial research projects
  • Participate in daily and weekly editorial meetings
  • Assist social media manager with social content
  • Transcribe audio as needed
  • Required Qualifications/Skills:

    • College student or recent grad
    • Deep knowledge and passion for sports and digital media
    • Strong writing skills
    • Working knowledge of social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.)
    • Comfortable and professional as it relates to working with talent, professional athletes, and/or celebrities
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to “wear many hats” in a small start-up environment
    • Exceptionally well organized with good attention to detail
    • Strong computer skills, especially in Keynote, Excel, Power Point, and Word
    • Photoshop and Illustrator software proficiency a plus

    Communications Coordinator

    Location: New York

    The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the Communications Director to help drive the PR strategy for the company, develop and implement innovative publicity campaigns for stories and partnership programs, as well as assist with day-to-day PR activities and outreach.

    Responsibilities:

    • Communicate directly with members of the press and pitch TPT stories and press opportunities
    • Coordinate press interviews with TPT editors and executive management
    • Maintain media library by monitoring, compiling and archiving TPT press clips
    • Draft press materials, assist with various projects and events
    • Work closely with the editorial, athlete relations, social, sales and marketing teams
    • Provide administrative support to team as needed in order to achieve departmental goals

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

    • At least 18 months of sales planning experience
    • The ideal candidate should have 2+ years of communications/public relations experience, preferably in sports or media industry
    • Excellent writing skills and experience pitching and securing media
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while working independently
    • Must be organized, proactive, with an excellent attention to detail and able to interface with various teams and executive management
    • Ability to “wear many hats” in a small, start-up environment
    • Experience & knowledge of various social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
    • Strong familiarity with sports landscape
    • Familiarity with Cision, Burrelles Luce, and Critical Mention a plus

    Junior Designer

    Location: New York

    Candidate needs a wide range of design and creative capabilities to assist Art Director and larger staff on fast-paced and innovative projects including development of marketing materials, digital graphic design and branding. Must be proficient in Photoshop, have working knowledge of CSS/HTML, Keynote, PowerPoint, InDesign, Word Press, Adobe CC. Final Cut Pro or comparable video editing skills a plus.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist in design of TPT marketing materials
    • Update and design graphics for use across TPT social and digital properties
    • Maintain consistent TPT branding for both internal and external design projects across all TPT departments

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

    • Proficient in Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC
    • Ability and desire to learn new programs and skills as needed
    • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (After Effects skills a plus)
    • Knowledge of current design trends and a passion for design
    • Excellent communication skills

    Senior Editor

    Location: New York

    The ideal candidate will be an aggressive digital journalist who has significant experience with daily online writing and editing, and demonstrates an ability to comfortably conduct interviews and interact with high-profile public personalities. The right candidate has an instinct for the ongoing sports conversation and an ability to leverage relationships with athletes to contribute to that conversation in a unique fashion. A successful applicant must be prepared to take on a significant workload of independent work, and to travel on short notice.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ideate and identify relevant stories and topics across all sports
    • Work closely with the content team to develop ideas for large scale online packages
    • Develop ongoing relationships with select athletes and leverage these for continuous story flow
    • Work closely with executive editor on assigned stories, including ideas, web production and publishing
    • Assist in CMS content production

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

    • 4+ years experience on a publication, sports, entertainment or news oriented Web site
    • Experience working with a data-driven approach to maximizing audience engagement, and adapting ideation and execution to fit those models
    • Strong knowledge of communications trends and a knack for developing highly engaging, grammatically sound content

    Associate Editor

    Location: New York

    The ideal candidate will be an eager young digital journalist who has some experience with daily online writing and editing, and demonstrates an ability to comfortably conduct interviews with high-profile public personalities. A successful applicant must be prepared to take on a significant workload of both supportive and independent work, and to travel on short notice.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ideate and identify relevant stories and topics across all sports
    • Work closely with executive and senior producers to develop ideas for large scale online packages
    • Work closely with senior producers on assigned stories, including ideas, web production and publishing
    • Write and copy edit as assigned
    • Assist in CMS content production

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

    • 2+ years experience on a publication, sports, entertainment or news oriented Web site
    • Experience managing a data-driven approach to maximizing audience engagement, including identifying and tracking meaningful success metrics
    • Strong knowledge of communications trends and a knack for developing highly engaging, grammatically sound content

    Integrated Marketing Manager

    Location: New York

    The Integrated Marketing Manager will work within the sales, editorial and production teams to manage brand accounts; propose, develop, and assist in executing original and branded marketing campaigns for TPT clients.

    This job will not be limited to but requires daily interaction with external and internal clients to brainstorm concepts, develop presentations, pitch ideas, deliver proposals, collect and distribute assets, and oversee and manage the execution of custom marketing campaigns and branded entertainment. It is critical to have a working understanding of the sports and publishing industry and digital/brand marketing, and be able to thrive in a fast paced, start-up environment.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist in the development of TPT’s sales and sponsorship group
    • Manage the execution of digital initiatives in support of ad revenue goals
    • Oversee the ideation, development and execution of sales and sponsor presentations
    • Manage interaction among internal groups related to each project
    • Identify and initiate agency and brand outreach
    • Manage all aspects/stages of development, execution and fulfillment of video production for external partners
    • Outline and support negotiations for talent-driven partnership opportunities with managers, agents, and the talent themselves
    • Spearhead the creation of program wrap reports, working with Measurement and Analytics teams to ensure programs are meeting and/or exceeding contracted objectives

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

    • 4+ years of digital experience in branded content and/or marketing sponsorships
    • 4+ years of entertainment project/account management experience required
    • Working knowledge of multi-platform channels (YouTube, Xbox, Hulu, Twitch, Playstation, etc.)
    • Creative writing and presentation design skills
    • Comfortable and professional in working with talent such as professional athletes, and/or celebrities
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to “wear many hats” in a small start-up environment
    • Exceptionally well organized with good attention to detail
